Survey of 155 North American Family Offices Highlights the Need to Review Liquidity Succession and Operational Infrastructure

Family Wealth Report has covered private market liquidity, differences in executive compensation between family and non-family professionals, operating expenses, and other findings from a 2026 survey conducted by RBC and Campden Wealth. This article summarizes the facts identified in the 2026 report and the practical implications that may be drawn from them.

Findings from the Survey

The survey received responses from 155 offices, comprising Single Family Offices and private non-commercial Multi-Family Offices. Of these, 123 were in the United States, 21 in Canada, and 11 elsewhere in the Americas. The families represented had net worth ranging from USD 100 million to more than USD 10 billion, with an average of USD 2.25 billion. The combined net worth of families that disclosed this information exceeded USD 330 billion.

The discussion below includes comparisons with the prior year, but simple year-on-year comparisons require caution. Families with net worth exceeding USD 1 billion accounted for 53% of respondents in 2026, up from 39% in 2025. The reported changes may therefore reflect not only changes in behavior but also differences in the composition of the respondent group. The figures should be read as findings for this particular group of respondents, not as definitive trends for all North American family offices.
